When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say, For Your Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today.
Honourable age does not depend on length of days, nor is the number of years a true measure of life.
They are all commemorated on the City War Memorial on the High Street.
The sixty-seventh of the monthly Great War Commemoration Quarters in Lincoln.
This brings to an end the series of WW1 monthly quarters we have rung to mark the centenaries of the deaths of the 971 Lincoln residents commemorated on the City War Memorial. In total 67 quarter peals have been rung the first being back in August 2014. We rang 57 consecutive monthly quarters from August 2014 to April 2019 and then between June 2019 & June 2021 a further 10 quarters. All 971 Lincoln residents have been remembered and rung for.
The Civic Ringing Master, Christopher C P Woodcock, wishes to be associated with this quarter, being unable to ring himself due to ill health, who instead sat in the ringing chamber whilst the quarter was rung and ended up acting as wasp exterminator - armed with wasp spray and a flip flop (due to an invasion of wasps in the ringing chamber)! With thanks to the Barrow & District Society for their help.
(Rung also for the Barrow & District Society)
