Rung half-muffled to commemorate the death 100 years ago today of Pte. Ernest William Thompson, 10.3.1894-24.5.1915, the second Ryburgh man to die in the First World War. Pte. Thompson enlisted in September 1914; and joined the 1st Norfolks on May 1st 1915. He met his death after less than 1 month, “sniped through the brain, between Hooge and Ypres Canal at Hollebeke”.
