To celebrate the 100th anniversary of Glastonbury Abbey being purchased by the Church of England. On 6th June, 1907, the Abbey was bought at auction for the sum of £30,000 by Ernest Jardine, a weathy Nottingham manufacturer and prospective parliamentary candidate. Mr. Jardine bought the building on behalf of the Bishop of Bath and Wells, who was determined to procure it and its associated grounds for the Church of England.
