Rung half muffled to express the profound shock and sorrow in the community of Ruthin and St Peter's church at the sudden closure of the school at the end of the last academic year.

Ruthin School was the gift to his native town of Gabriel Goodman, Dean of Westminster for most of the reign of Elizabeth I. It has played an important part in the life of Ruthin and North Wales for centuries, and always been closely linked with S. Peter's church. The church was effectively the school chapel for Goodman's foundation; and the school's governance was bound up with the church, both standing within the precincts of the medieval College of S. Peter. Even after nineteenth century changes the links continued to be strong. Until the 1990s boarders attended morning worship at S. Peter's every Sunday of term, and since then pupils have come on a voluntary basis, singing in the choir and taking part in other church activities.

Gavin Price, another Old Ruthinian was unable to ring because of poor health but would like to be associated with this quarter.
