with the exception of harold sams (who may or may not have been related to the ringing sams at Nazeing) this band seems to have been drawn mostly from the towers of Great Bardfield, Braintree and great Dunmow. quite why they chose Matching for this peal is not recorded but seeing that the bells where pretty notorious at that time for their bad go it's highly likely that they wanted to challenge themselves!
