Neil and Andrew Aspland lost their father, Denis, on 29 February 2024. Although not ringers themselves, he and Eileen had always supported their sons' ringing activities, and had met quite a few ringers over the years. So it was appropriate that a band of such ringers rang a peal in his memory. This took place at St Giles, Pontefract on 29 December 2024, five years to the day after a Diamond Wedding Anniversary peal was rung at the same venue. As Denis was 90, a length of 5090 was rung, and a new Surprise Major method was chosen and named Stonegate (Denis had lived in Stonegate Drive, Pontefract for six decades, and there is a Stonegate in York, the city in which Denis and Eileen met and married). Eileen was present both before and after to meet the ringers and hear the start and end of the peal.
