Ringing to mark The Millennial Anniversary of The Translation of St. Alfege's body from St Paul's Cathedral to Canterbury Cathedral in June 1023. St Alfege, Archbishop of Canterbury, was martyred on the site of St Alfege's Church Greenwich in 1012 and his body was initially taken to St Paul's. King Cnut ordered that St Alfege's body should be reburied at Canterbury, where he now rests behind the High Altar.
Several parishioners from St Alfege's did a pilgrimage walk from St Paul's Cathedral to Greenwich. The ringers supported them with ringing at St Vedast Foster Lane, St James Garlickhythe and St Magnus the Martyr and finally ringing at Greenwich to welcome the pilgrims back with well deserved refreshments.
4 out of 4 towers today.
