On the 250th anniversary of the casting and installation of the new bells by Pack & Chapman (Whitechapel) in 1774. The first ringing of the bells, 250 years ago to the day, had been by visiting bands from York and Leeds.
This ringing followed a short re-dedication service performed by the Rector, Revd Garry Hinchcliffe, including the following blessing.
'Heavenly Father, We pray for these church bells and for those who have rung them past and present.
We remember their function historically as a call to those who came to market, and we remember their function today as a call to worship, a call to peace and a call to salvation.
May their sound at this moment of their rededication continue to enrich all our lives from the greatest to the least.
These things we ask and pray in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.'
