Quarter peal attempt called round. This was followed by a leisurely pub lunch and afternoon ringing at Hambleton & Market Overton. Rung at the Prebendal Church of St James-the-Great, Gretton, Northants, a former Royal Manor in the then Diocese of Lincoln, being one of the fifty-three Prebendaries of Lincoln Cathedral. The ancient Church of St Mary-le-Wigford in Lincoln belongs to the Prebend of Gretton, the conductor being the current Church Warden at St Mary-le-Wigford. Between 1100 & 1107 King Henry I gave St Mary-le-Wigford Church to Bishop Robert Bloet - Bishop of Lincoln, and later in 1163 St Mary-le-Wigford become part of the Gretton Prebend which had been confirmed in 1146. 1 person likes this | |
