Norwich Union Society St Nicholas Sunday, 28 October 1770 in 3h 20 (25–1–0) 5040 Plain Bob Major 1 John Chamberlin (C) 2 John Dixon 3 John Havers 4 John Keenus 5 William Warner 6 John Peak 7 James Watling 8 Simon Watling "ON SUNDAY, Oct. 28, 1770, was rung at GREAT YARMOUTH, in the County of Norfolk, a compleat peal of 5040 changes of Bob-major, by eight of the UNION SOCIETY of the Norwich Ringers, in the space of 3 hours and 20 minutes. - This performance of ours would not have been inserted had it not been for some unfriendly and ill meant expressions which have been breathed out by a company of Suffolk Ringers about 18 miles from Norwich, who declared that Norwich Ringers could not compleat a peal in any steeple where there is any considerable weight of metal. We have, to the above Performance, subscribed our Names, JOHN CHAMBERLIN - Treble and called the Peal. JOHN DIXON - 2. JOHN HAVERS - 3. JOHN KEENUS - 4. WILLIAM WARNER - 5. JOHN PEAK - 6. JAMES WATLING - 7. SIMON WATLING - Tenor. Certified by Robert Church, William Browne, Philip Scott of Yarmouth. N.B. - The Tenor weighs 25 Hundred 1 Quarter.
