As far as can be ascertained, this was the first attempt of a peal on the heaviest ring of 6 bells in Devon.
The bells were rehung on ball bearings in 1934 by Gillett and Johnston but on the old frame, in which the back 2 bells swing the same way in adjacent pits. The circle is far from ideal. During the course of the peal the tenor sally gradually disintegrated, leaving only about half the original tufting.
