Bell News page 328 “Notes to Peals”
The peal at Crewe - This peal was arranged for Mr A H Middleton, who is an artificer in the navy, home on furlough after three years in China and India, formerly a Crewe ringer. Messrs Baddeley hail from Lawton; Weatherby from Market Drayton; Johnson from Sandbach; the others from Crewe. The band was chosen as far as possible to represent old ringing friends in the branch, and is believed to be the first peal rung by a naval artificer. After the peal the ringers were kindly entertained to supper by Mr Middleton and his step-father, Mr George Harding, a very pleasant evening terminating about 11pm
