The annual Barmouth Christmas peal rung to mark the tri-centenary of "The Last Haul" in 1709, a 700-ton Genoese gallon was ship-wrecked in a storm five miles north west of Barmouth. Its precious cargo of 48 blocks of marble was en route from Italy to an unknown destination. A two-ton block was raised by divers and has been carved as a monument and erected by the Town Council to mark the Millennium and is sited in the harbour area. Our thanks to Andrew Mainwaring for standing reserve this year.
