Specially arranged and rung in fond member of our dear friend Robert ‘Rob’ Wilson of Ossington. Rob did a huge amount for ringing here at Wellow, not only did he help restore and rehang the bells he also made and constructed the new bell frame. On top of this he continued until his untimely death to week in week out support, help and encourage the local band to keep the bells ringing, in his usual relaxed and friendly manor. His sense of humour, his big smile and his distinctive laugh are greatly missed in the tower by us all.
The band wish to associate ALL the Wellow ringers with this attempt, especially Janet Carr. Also we associate Margaret Martin and the rest of the family, Laura Carr, Margaret Chilton & Paul Sharp (all of whom could not ring today but rang in the first peal on the bells back in 2008 along with Rob). The final ringer of the 2008 peal was today’s tenor ringer who rang the same bell (one of Rob’s best friends).
Rob is a former Ringing Master of the Southwell Diocesan Guild and over the years has given his time freely to help support towers and ringers, whether that be helping with rehangs, making frames or just supporting practices etc. The Guild will be the poorer for not having him around as we all will be.
Final note - Yes we know we have missed off the Nottingham part of the Guild’s ‘new name’ but Rob was against the name change from the outset and so we feel it is fitting to ring today’s peal for Rob under the old Guild Name! We think he would approve! He did only ever ring one peal (his last) under the new name S&NDG the other 131 were rung for the old Guild name SDG.

This performance was rung In memoriam — Robert Wilson
