5040 Plain Bob Minor
(7 extents, each called differently.)
1 George Jones, Senior
2 George Jones, Junior
3 Gilbert R Williams
4 Marmaduke Blezard
5 Walter Thomas
6 James Morgan (C)
A Jubilee Peal.
First peal on the bells and by all the band.
[Bell News (BN vi.464) and Cheshire Observer (17 December 1887, p. 8) both have the same band of ringers as shown here; neither distinguishes between the two ringers called George Jones. The peal boards do differentiate the two ringers in various peals (using + for senior, and x for junior). However, in this case the peal board does not have the same names for the ringers of 2 and 3 as in Bell News and The Observer: on the peal board they are RD C WILLIAMS and WM MORGAN respectively; but the treble ringer is GEO JONES +. Failing the appearance of any evidence for the accuracy of the peal board we must assume Bell News and the Cheshire Observer gave the correct details of the peal. Both The Observer and Bell News record it was a Jubilee Peal and also the first on the bells and by all the band. ] JDA
