Rung to celebrate Lincoln City FC ‘the Imps’ being crowned the Champions of League Two (after competing in it for 2 years) and therefore securing their promotion back into League One, it being 20 years since they were last in League One!
Specially arranged and rung to coincide with the Celebratory Open Top Bus Parade for the Imps through the City to celebrate their success and promotion.
We began ringing as the buses left Sincil Bank, the home of the Imps, which stands less the half a mile away from St Peter-at-Gowts before passing directly past St Peter-at-Gowts on its way up the High Street. St Peter-at-Gowts is the closest church now with ringing bells to Sincil Bank, the home of the Imps (now that St Botolph’s has closed).
WELL DONE YOU IMPS, you have done the City proud yet again!!! and a big thank-you to the Cowley Brothers, Danny & Nicky, Club Manager & Assistant for all their hard work in turning the club around - securing 2 promotions in their 3 seasons since being at the club, it was only just over 2 years ago we were down in the National League!
Today’s turn out of supporters lining the route is estimated between 40,000 & 50,000.
A quarter peal was being attempted but unfortunately we had a mechanical failure just after the sixth extent came round resulting in the 5th rope breaking. It was later discovered that the 5th pulleys and pulley box had totally disintegrated and self destructed, the remains being found in a pile on the floor under the bells, and therefore resulting in the rope breaking. However the bells were ringing when the Parade and buses past the Church!
(Rung also for the Lincoln Diocesan Guild)
