Length assumed - not in original report. The bells were half muffled as a tribute of respect to the late William J Davies, a ringer of the church, who met his death “somewhere in France” about three weeks ago, news of which has just come to hand. The deceased was a member of the staff in the weights and measures office, Derby, and responded to the appeal of Major Sandwith for men to join the 4th Hussars. He was sent to the Curragh for training, and crossed to France at the latter end of last year. He was 22 years of age and an only child. Source: Derby Daily Telegraph 29/06/1916.
