On Tuesday, August 25th, an attempt was made at St. Laurence's for a quarter-peal of Grandsire Triples, with the bells half-muffled, for the Rev. H. T. Ellacombe, late Rector of Clyst St. George, Devon, but after ringing 826 changes in 35 mins., the tenor rope broke, thus bringing it to grief. [See separate entry.]
After adjusting another rope, this 575 of Grandsire Caters was rung, in 26½ mins.
[Bell News, August 29, 1885, p174.]

This performance was rung In memoriam — Rev. Henry Thomas Ellacombe (1790 - 1885)
