On Tuesday evening, August 11th, eight members of the above Association met at Eccles parish church, for the purpose of attempting a peal of Kent Treble Major, with the bells half-muffled, as a token of respect to the late Rev. H. T. Ellacombe, a notice of whose death appeared in last week’s "Bell News," and after ringing about 1000 changes, two of the muffles came off, and the conductor called "stand."
After these had been put right, a touch of 1152 Treble Bob was rung in 35 mins.
Messrs. Eachus and West belong to Manchester Cathedral; O Brien and Heald to St. Philip’s, Hulme; the rest belong to the local company.
