Lest We Forget
Due to lockdown coming into force tomorrow we decided to move forward the planned ringing for Remembrance Sunday and advertised it on the village facebook page.
Rung on the back four with the bells half muffled in memory of all those who have lost their lives fighting for our Country in conflicts past and present, especially during the two World Wars, but especially the 18 men & boys from this village who lost their lives in the Great War and did not return, all of whom are commemorated on the Village War Memorial.
This year also marks the centenary of our Village War Memorial being unveiled in 1920 and the centenary of the first Act of Remembrance to be held around it on Armistice Day 1920. We are pleased that the Act of Remembrance will still take place around the War Memorial this Sunday.
This date touch was rung up to 11am, also coinciding with the Church being open for Private Prayer.
We Will Remember Them!
Their Name Liveth For Evermore
When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say, For Your Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today.
Longest length of ringing for all for over 7 months.
Circled the tower (and as conductor) 57 times to quarter peals, since the bells were rehung and augmented in Sept 2004: 4-5.
The ringing took place using a combination of family members who live in the same household and social/support bubbles with all the ringers wearing face coverings.
(No. 477) (Rung also for the Lincoln Diocesan Guild)
