Lest We Forget
Rung with the bells half muffled on the minor three (3,4,5) on Armistice Day, marking the centenary this day of the unveiling of the Cenotaph on Whitehall in London and the burial of the Unknown Warrior in Westminster Abbey - Armistice Day 1920, these both being the national memorials to the fallen.
This ringing took place at 10am to signal that the Church is open for Private Prayer today, rung by a single household who live in the village, the ground floor belfry having its own access to outside without going through the Church, with the permission of the Rector & the Church Wardens.
In memory of all those who have lost their lives fighting for our Country in conflicts past and present, especially during the two World Wars, but especially the 18 men & boys from this village who lost their lives in the Great War and did not return, all of whom are commemorated on the Village War Memorial.
Also marking the centenary of our Village War Memorial being unveiled in 1920 and the centenary of the first Act of Remembrance to be held around it on Armistice Day 1920.
