Rung to mark the 75th anniversary of VJ Day, to celebrate and give thanks for the end of the Second World War. Also remembering all those who lost their lives during WWII, the prisoners of war and all those who answered the call to fight for King & Country - bringing us Victory, Peace and Freedom.
Especially remembering the 314 men and women from the City who lost their lives during WWII and are all commemorated on the City War Memorial on the High Street just up from St Mary-le-Wigford Church.
Following this ringing the tenor was tolled 75 times.
This is the first ringing on the bells since before lockdown.
Rung also to celebrate the Feast of the Assumption of St. Mary the Virgin, the fourth of the six Feast’s of the Blessed Virgin Mary that we ring for annually.
Rung also in memory of June Small who passed away earlier this month, 4th Aug, aged 62. June was a former work colleague and friend of Robert on the treble.
The ringing took place with social distancing observed and all the ringers wearing face coverings.
