Rung on Good Friday with the bells fully muffled and the tenor open at backstoke to create a tolling effect.
‘There is a green hill far away, outside a city wall, where our dear Lord was crucified who died to save us all.’
This quarter was being rung whilst the four Walks of Witness from the North, South, East & West of the City made their way into the City Centre and whilst the Civic Procession made its way down the High Street from the Guildhall to meet up with them at the City War Memorial on the High Street for the Good Friday Open Air Civic Service. Following the service at the War Memorial the congregation and procession made its way here to St Mary le Wigford’s Church for refreshments and hot cross buns as the quarter peal was coming round.
The Procession and Service were led by the Salvation Army Band and attended by the Right Worshipful the Mayor of Lincoln and members of the City of Lincoln Civic Party.
Rung to remind the general public & shoppers in the City centre of the importance of today. Rung with the support and encouragement of the Vicar who feels it is important the bells are rung and heard today in this ever secular and modern world we live in, to remind everyone that today is a special day.
(Rung also for the Lincoln Diocesan Guild)
