St Peter and St Paul Sunday, 30 December 2018 in 60m (8–3–23) Call Changes and Plain Bob Doubles (on 6 Bells) 1 Christopher C P Woodcock (C) 2 Yvonne A Woodcock 3 Janet M Risdale 4 Sister Maureen Pike 5 Paul Sharp 6 Darren Wilson 7 Bob Hardwick 8 Anne Hardwick 9 Tess Rowland 10 Bryony Curley 11 Colin Simpson 12 Josie Trewin 13 Steve Lumb 14 Judy Lumb 15 Bruce Talmage Rung by the Potterhanworth, Coningsby & Old Bolingbroke ringers to celebrate Christmas prior to the Traditional Langton Candlelit Carol Service on the first Sunday after Chirstmas. The main body of Langton Church has no electric lighting so this was truly a proper candlelit carol service. The bells at Langton are rung from the ground floor porch area by the main (only) Church door with the congregation walking through the centre of the ropes whilst we rang. We also rang for a short time after the service as the congregation left the Church and made their way down to the village hall for seasonal refreshments. It is fitting that these bells were rung this evening shortly before New Years Eve, as Tennyson was born just down the road at Somersby and would have heard these bells ringing out as a young boy, inspiring him to write ‘Ring Out Wild Bells’ part of ‘In Memoriam’ which he started in 1834 whilst at Somersby. ‘Ring out the old, ring in the new, Ring, happy bells, across the snow, The year is going, let him go, Ring out the false, ring in the true.’ From Tennyson’s ‘In Memoriam’. | |
