Lest We Forget
Rung by the local band on Armistice Day at the special request of the Parish Council following the village beacon lighting as part of the ‘Battle’s Over’ event at 7.05pm. Rung with the bells half muffled to mark the Centenary of the Armistice remembering all those who were killed during the Great War 1914-1918, especially the 42 men & boys from this village who did not return.
We especially remember Pioneer WILLIAM PEARSON GREEN who was killed in action on 28th June 1916 aged 25 and Private GEORGE HENRY COOKE who died of wounds on 20th December 1917 aged 29. William & George were both ringers at this Church.
Also Gunner Harry Green (brother of William) & Aircraftsman Frank Dawson who both served in the Great War and both survived, they were both ringers at this Church.
We Will Remember Them!
Their Name Liveth For Evermore
When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say, For Your Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today.
"Ring out the thousand wars of old, Ring in the thousand years of peace."
This brings an end to the local bands ringing today for the Armistice. In total we have rung 16 times today at 9 different Churches, with the first ringing today starting at 8.10am and the last finishing at 8.10pm. A total of 15 ringers taking part during the day. A great effort by all, Well Done!
(Rung also for the Lincoln Diocesan Guild)

This performance is linked to the events: Saint Andrew's and All Saints Society — Remembering our fallen local Ringers (WW1) and Ringing for the Centenary of the WWI Armistice
