Rung to commemorate the centenary of the Armistice which signalled the end of the First World War and remembering the men of Darton and District who gave their lives in the service of their country.
In particular, remembering Captain Cyril Burton Dixon M.C. (York and Lancaster Regiment), of Jacob’s Hall, Kexborough, who died on 14th November 1918 from wounds received in action three days earlier, aged 28 years. He was interred at the Awoingt British Cemetery in France.
Also, John Taylor Mellor, former Clerk, Sexton and Chorister of this parish for a period of sixteen years and who was killed in action at Boyelles in France on 16th March 1918, aged 36 years.
