Rung at the grave of Serjeant William Henry Taffender who died 100 years ago today, aged 31.
Son of William and Eliza Taffender; husband of Fannie Taffender, of 84, Springfield Rd., New Southgate, London, William served in the Royal Horse Artillery, 29th Division, Ammunition Column.
William was a Southwark ringer and a member of the Ancient Society of College Youths (elected 1908).
This morning we visited the grave of a Southwark ringer, William H Taffender who died on 7 October 1918.
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
