Rung half-muffled on the centenary of the death of Frederick Ladson Steggles: born in Rattlesden but lived in Buxhall as a child, Frederick had emigrated to Australia by 1916. At the age of 24 and working as a farm labourer in New South Wales, he enlisted in the Australian Army and was posted as a Trooper with the 7th Australian Light Horse. He and his comrades were shipped on the RMS Mongolia to the Middle East as reinforcements, where they fought across the desert. Frederick was killed in action on 25 September 1918, aged 27, in the Battle for Amman. He is buried in the Damascus Commonwealth War Cemetery, Syria.

This performance is linked to the event Buxhall, Suffolk: In memoriam our fallen (1914-1918).
