Rung half muffled in memory of Lance Corporal Frank Roper MM, Tottenham, Middlesex. Died 01/09/1918 age 34. Royal Fusiliers 4th Bn. Service No.65380. Commemorated at H.A.C. Cemetery, Ecoust-St Mein, France, Grave II E 2. Born 28/01/1883. Son of Francis Henry Roper and Margaret Roper (née Cobbold) of Tottenham. Husband of Sarah Jane Roper (née Munt), whom he married on 25/12/1905 at All Hallows, Tottenham. Father of Margaret Roper (born 04/07/1908) and Alfred Francis Roper (born 06/02/1916). At the time of the 1911 census, he was working as a merchant’s clerk. He rang his first peal, the treble to Grandsire Triples, at All Hallows, Tottenham, on 28/12/1912, conducted by George B. Lucas snr. He served with the Expeditionary Force in France and Flanders from November 1917, and was killed in action, with his officer, by a trench mortar bomb. His death was reported at a Middlesex Association meeting at Edmonton on 12/10/1918. Born: St John’s Wood, London. Enlisted: Tottenham, on 30/08/1916.
