Rung with the bells half muffled in memory of the 234 Ripon men killed in the Great War. Remembering, in particular, Private William Thorpe (35), 3rd Battalion, Grenadier Guards, who was a ringer at this Cathedral Church and at St. John the Divine, Sharow. He was killed in action on 23rd August 1918 and is commemorated at Vis-en-Artois Memorial, France.
