Rung by the local band prior to the morning service with the bells half muffled as a mark of respect and in fond memory of Pam Garner who sadly passed away earlier this week on 27th June aged 88.
Pam has played a huge part in the life of St Andrew’s Church and the village as a whole. She served as Church Warden here at St Andrew’s for 19 years (1998 – 2017), sat on the PCC for 33 years up until 2017 and has been Organist here for 35 years, a post she took up back in 1983 and has very much loved and enjoyed doing, in fact she was still playing our Organ each week and leading our Community Choir. Pam was also Chair of the Bell Fund Committee between 1999 & 2004 when we were raising funds to restore and augment our bells.
Pam had a love for music, not only did she play the Church Organ and lead the Community Choir but she also taught countless numbers of village children to play the piano. It is comforting to know that Pam saw her beloved Organ here at St Andrew’s restored just last year bringing it back into A1 condition, something she was greatly pleased and proud about. She also took a great interest in the local Church of England Primary School severing as Chair of the Governors and also being the Bishop’s Visitor.
Pam unsurprisingly loved to hear the Church bells and was a great friend to the ringers. She was able to listen to the bells from her home just across the Green from the Church, and she would always comment on how nice the bells sounded.
She will be greatly missed by us all, not only for her loyal and tireless dedication and commitment to this Church but also we will miss her warm kind smile which she would always greet you with. Rest in peace Pam.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Pam’s family at this difficult time.
This quarter was followed by whole pull and stand before the tenor was tolled up to the service. On Wednesday evening (27th June) the Death Knell & Nine Tailors were rung / tolled on the tenor bell (two lots of three for the Nine Tailors followed by 88 tolls representing her age).
The band wish to associate local ringers Ray Cucksey and Ron Applewhite with this quarter.
(No. 386) (Rung also for the Lincoln Diocesan Guild)
