Rung in memory and on the centenary of the death of Pte. Frederick William Merritt. Frederick enlisted on 5th May 1917 declaring his age as 18 however, he was actually 17.
He was posted to the 9th Training Reserve Battalion at Rugeley, Staffordshire. He was transferred to the West Riding Regiment on 1st December and thence to the Durham Light Infantry Service No. 81957. Frederick was posted to France and reported missing on 27th May 1918 during the run-up to the Third Battle of the Aisne. This date was accepted as his date of death.
