Rung in memory of Private Frederick Joseph Cross, Norwich, St John de Sepulchre, Norwich Diocesan Association. Died 27/05/1918 age 28. York and Lancaster Regiment 7th Bn. Service No.235620. Commemorated at Acheux British Cemetery, France, Grave Plot 1 Row D Grave 18. Born 22/04/1890. One of three children; all surviving at the 1911 census. Son of Herbert Cross and Mary Ann Cross (née Denton) of 39 Winter Road, Norwich. At the time of the 1911 census, he was working as a clerk. He was scoutmaster of the 17th Norwich Scouts (St John de Sepulchre troop). A memorial peal of Kent TB Major was rung at St John de Sepulchre Norwich on 11/11/1920 and was conducted by his brother, George Herbert Cross; his brother, George, was Master of the Society of Royal Cumberland Youths for the period 1935 to 1947, and again from 1949 until 1953. Born: Lakenham, Norfolk. Enlisted: Norwich. Resided (1911 Census): 39 Winter Road, Norwich.
The back six of the St John de Sepulchre bells were transferred to Erpingham in 1987 along with the pealboard showing the memorial peal above and two peals in which Private Cross rang.
