Rung half-muffled on the centenary of the death of Cecil William Sawyer. Son of the village blacksmith and the post mistress, Cecil was born in Buxhall in 1896. He enlisted into the Suffolk Regiment but later transferred to the King's Shropshire Light Infantry. On 21 March 1918 Germany launched its Spring Offensive. Cecil's Battalion was in the front line, the German Assault breached their lines and more than 400 men became prisoners. He died on 14 May 1918, aged 22. He is buried in Braine-le-Comte Communal Cemetery, Belgium. A tablet to his memory stands in Buxhall graveyard.

This performance is linked to the event Buxhall, Suffolk: In memoriam our fallen (1914-1918) .
