Rung in memory of two West Ham ringers who gave their lives in 1918.
Rifleman Alexander William Fiddes, West Ham, Essex. Died 21/03/1918 age 33. London Regiment 1st/17th Bn. Service No. 576117. Commemorated at Arras Memorial, France, Bay 9 or 10. Born 15/07/1884. He was a musician, with several reports of him playing the violin or piano at East End ringers’ gatherings. Born: Mile End. Enlisted: Stratford, London. Resided (1911 census): 137 Amity Road, West Ham.
Private William Truss, West Ham, College Youths. Died 12/04/1918 age 42. King’s Own Yorkshire Light Infantry 2nd Bn. Service No.38270. Commemorated at Querrieu British Cemetery, France, Grave A14. Born 18/03/1876. He was a very prolific peal ringer, ringing many in the London area. Born: Marlow, Bucks. Enlisted: Stratford, London. Resided (1911 census): 98 Amity Road, West Ham.
