In memory of Lieutenant Reginald Joseph Albert Blake, West Clandon, Winchester Diocesan and Ilford, Essex, who died 13/04/1918 age 25. East Lancashire Regiment 1st Bn. attd. 11th Bn.
Commemorated at Ploegsteert Memorial, Belgium, Panel 5 and 6. Born 3rd quarter 1892. One of two brothers, son of William Henry Blake and Mary Blake of "Heatherbank", Lower Bourne, Farnham, Surrey and husband of Muriel Irene Blake (née Bown), whom he married in 1914, of 1 St Benet's Road, Prittlewell, Southend-on-Sea. Father of Alan Henry Blake (born 02/11/1915).
At the time of the 1911 census, he was working as a secondary school teacher. He rang numerous peals in Surrey and continued peal ringing after he moved to Essex. He joined the Ancient Society of College Youths in 1912. His name is shown twice in the original 1924 Roll of Honour, as Blake, R, West Clandon and Blake, J A, Ilford.
