Ringing to Remember – We Will Remember You!
LEST WE FORGET – ‘Their Name Liveth For Evermore’
Rung by the local band to mark the centenary of the death of Sergeant FREDERICK WOODCOCK who served in the Lincolnshire Regiment before being transferred to the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, who was killed in action on 30th March 1917 aged 21. He was the fourteenth Potterhanworth resident/native to be killed during the Great War, and is a distant relative of the conductor and tenor ringer.
Rung with the bells fully muffled for Lent, with both tenor muffles removed so the tenor tolled open at the back of each change.
When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say, For Your Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today.
Honourable age does not depend on length of days, nor is the number of years a true measure of life.
200th quarter peal: 3.
(Rung also for the Lincoln Diocesan Guild)
(No. 328)
