Ringing to Remember – We Will Remember You!
LEST WE FORGET – ‘Their Name Liveth For Evermore’
Rung by the local band with the bells half muffled to mark the centenary of the death’s of:
Private ARTHUR PAGE who served in the 2nd Battalion of the Lincolnshire Regiment, who was killed in action on 1st July 1916 during the first day of the Battle of the Somme.
Lance Corporal SAMUEL ROSE GREEN who served in the 2nd Battalion of the Lincolnshire Regiment, who was killed in action on 3rd July 1916 aged 30 at the Battle of the Somme.
They were the tenth & eleventh Potterhanworth residents/natives to be killed during the Great War.
Rung also to mark the centenary of the Battle of the Somme, remembering all those who made the ultimate sacrifice during the Somme, not forgetting those who were wounded and those who survived, especially today remembering the twenty thousand who fell on the first day alone.
When You Go Home, Tell Them Of Us And Say, For Your Tomorrow, We Gave Our Today.
Honourable age does not depend on length of days, nor is the number of years a true measure of life.
(Rung also for the Lincoln Diocesan Guild)
(No. 295)
