Remembering 2nd Corporal Cecil Coleman Vanstone of Holbeton, Devonshire, bellringer at this church, who died in action 28/03/1918 age 22. Royal Engineers 56th Field Convoy. Service No. 140433. Commemorated at Douchy-Les-Ayette British Cemetery, France, Grave lll C 1. Born 12/11/1895 and baptised 05/01/1896 at All Saints, Holbeton. One of four children, all surviving the 1911 census. Son of Henry and Edith Vanstone of Holbeton. At the time of the 1911 census he was working as a garden boy. Born Holbeton, Devonshire. Enlisted Plymouth, Devonshire.
His brother, Private Alfred John Vanstone, Tank Corps, not know to be a bellringer also fell, less than three weeks later on 16/04/1918 and is commemorated in Belgium.
Specially arranged and rung to his memory in advance of the 100th anniversary of his death, which this year happens to fall in Holy Week.
