Rung open in thanksgiving for the life of Rifleman Frederick William Butcher who died 09/08/1917 age 20. He enlisted in the London Regiment in December 1916 and was afterwards attached to the Royal Irish Rifles, serving with the Expeditionary force in France from January 1917. He was killed in action at Frezenburg, to the East of Ypres, and was buried there but his grave was lost in subsequent fighting. He is remembered on War Memorials at Oundle School and Aldeburgh, Suffolk and commemorated at Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium, Panel 40.
