Rung to commemorate Private John Lang Vogwill, Royal Army Medical Corps 32nd Stat. Hosp. Service No.24265, a LACR member and a ringer at this church, who died 100 years ago today aged 41. He is commemorated at Mombasa British Memorial, Kenya. Born 2nd quarter 1876. Son of Emma Vogwill (née Aggett, originally from Chagford, Devon) of Hoghton, Preston, Lancs, and the late John Vogwill (died February 1917). Emma Vogwill died in February 1918. Husband of Georgianna Vogwill (née Dye) of Newton St Faith's, Norwich, whom he married on 27/09/1906 at Holy Trinity, Hoghton. At the time of the 1911 census he was working as a domestic gardener. He died at sea of malaria and was buried at sea. Born: Preston, Lancs. Enlisted: Blackburn. Resided (1911 Census): Chapel Lane, Hoghton, Lancs.
