Remembering Lance Corporal Robert George Rowsell of Sowton, Devonshire. Died 1/11/1917 aged 20. The Devonshire Regiment 9th Bn. Service No. 23421. Commemorated at Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Belgium Grave/Panel XXI; on Sowton War Memorial in the village and on a brass plaque on the north wall of the chancel at St Michael's, Sowton, Devonshire. Son of George and Elizabeth Rowsell of Honiton Clyst, Devonshire. Born : Sowton, Devon. Enlisted : Exeter. Resided : Sowton. Member of the local band at Sowton. There appears to be some confusion as to the order of his christian names as he appears as George Robert Rowsell on the memorial in the church, R G Rowsell on his headstone and Rowsell G. on the war memorial.
Specially arranged and rung by a band from Kingsteignton to mark the 100th anniversary of his death.
