In memoriam Private Arthur Henry Norcott, service no. 515145, a ringer at Sonning. He was born on October 6 1895 at Medmenham, and after a career as a gardener's assistant and a police constable, was called up on 26 February 1917. During training, on 22 June 1917, he was appointed acting Lance Corporal. He went out to France on the 11th of October 1917, reverting to his substantive rank of Private, and was posted to 2nd battalion Gordon Highlanders on October 16th 1917. He survived just over two weeks overseas, being killed in action, dying on October 26 1917. He is commemorated at Hooge Crater Cemetery, Belgium, Grave XI C 8.
