Rung to remember the sacrifice of Private Bertie Robert Ayres, and his wife and seven children. Bertie was an Oxenhope ringer who was killed in action at Passchendaele on 7th October, 1917. His body was never identified and his name is engraved on the Tyne Cot Memorial for the Missing, in Belgium. Bertie had been a Territorial for several years, and when war broke out, he enlisted immediately and died aged 40.
We will remember them.
First quarter of Kent inside for the ringers of 2 and 4, both members of the Yorkshire Tykes.
