Rung in memory of Private Percy John Garwood of Stanstead Suffolk, who died 26/09/1917 age 37. He served in the Cambridgeshire Regiment 1st Bn. Service No.328053 and is commemorated at Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium, Panel 148. He was born in the second quarter of 1881 and baptised on 02/10/1881 at Stanstead as Percy John Garwood, but he seems to have been known as John Percy Garwood. He was the son of Eliza Oakley of Pond Hall, Stanstead and husband of Laura Ethel Garwood (née Howard) of 14 Upper Street, Stanstead, Suffolk, whom he married in 1906. Father of J. Thomas Garwood, Irene Elizabeth Garwood, Michael George Garwood, Frank Garwood and Jack N. Garwood. He worked as a domestic gardener before enlisting he enlisted at Bury St Edmunds.
