Rung in memory of Aldermaston ringer Private Frederick James Jacob on the centenary of his death. The following is the citation as published in the Newbury Weekly News:
Private Frederick James Jacob, Aldermaston, Oxford Diocesan. Died 30/8/1917 aged 27. Devonshire Regiment 14th Bn. Service No 37243. Commemorated at Coxyde Military Cemetery, Belgium, Grave III C 32. Born 06/12/1889. Son of Frederick William Jacob and Ellen Jacob of Rose Cottage, Aldermaston, Berks. Before enlisting he worked assisting his father who was an osler and willow rod grower. His brother, Private Sidney Ralph Jacob, Royal Berkshire Regiment, who was also a bellringer, also fell, on 07/12/1917. Born: Aldermaston, Berks, Enlisted Reading. Resided: Aldermaston.
