To commemorate Gunner Walter Markham of the Royal Field Artillery who was killed in action on 21st August 1917, and is commemorated at Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. Gunner Markham was a ringer at Stone, Bucks which are now unringable and Dinton is the next parish with a peal of bells.
