Rung to mark the 70th anniversary of the first peal to be rung on the bells at Martin (20th August 1947) and to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the casting in 1946/1947 of the new six bells and their hanging in Martin Church tower in 1947.

Rung especially remembering Gerald Audis, former Tower Captain here at Martin who sadly passed away in August 2013, and who is greatly missed by the local band.

Gerald rang in the last peal attempt on the bells at Martin which was ten years ago to mark the 60th anniversary of the first peal, which was sadly unsuccessful. This was Gerald’s one and only peal attempt. Today’s peal is the first peal on the bells since 1995.

The band wish to associate Janet Crafer & Janet Risdale (members of the local band) and also Judith Williamson (who taught the Martin Millennium band and who organised the peal attempt 10 years ago) with this peal today.

Gerald’s wife, son & brother’s all came up to the Church today to listen to the ringing.
