Rung with the bells half muffled immediately prior to a Service of Remembrance held at the City War Memorial on the High Street to mark the centenary of the Battle of Passchendaele. The service was attended by the City Sheriff representing the Right Worshipful the Mayor of Lincoln who was unable to attend, along with various Forces Organisations, Associations & Veterans. Remembering all those who lost their lives during the Battle of Passchendaele, not forgetting those who were wounded and those who survived, but especially remembering today the 9 Lincoln men named on the City War Memorial as listed below who fell on the first day of the Battle of Passchendaele.
Rung with the bells half muffled in memory of the following twenty-five Lincoln men killed in the Great War during July 1917. Specially rung to commemorate the centenary of their deaths, We will remember them.
GEORGE WILLIAM ADLARD, Private G/15345, 12th Battalion, Royal Sussex Regiment. Killed in action 31st July 1917, aged 24.
ALFRED [EDWARD] ATTWOOD, Acting Sergeant 40099, 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 31st July 1917, aged 27.
CECIL BORMAN, Private 20285, 8th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Died 31st July 1917, aged 19.
ALBERT EDWIN ELLIS, Private 22754, 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 31st July 1917, aged 29.
HARRY HORN, Private 7689, 2nd Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment. Killed in action 31st July 1917.

Honourable age does not depend on length of days, nor is the number of years a true measure of life.
This quarter especially remembers Richard Fairchild, Killed in action 16th July 1917, who is named on the War Memorial here in St Mary le Wigford’s Church.
They are all commemorated on the City War Memorial on the High Street.
