Rung prior to a special service outside the Memorial Chapel at Church to remember eleven residents of St. Annes who died on 31/7/1917; ten of whom were killed in action on the first day of the Battle of Passchendaele: Pte. Henry Cross, Capt. James Grove, Pte. Harry Hawkard, Cpl. Samuel Hodgson, Pte. Fred Haworth, Pte. Harry Howarth, Pte. Albert Hoyle, Pte. Samuel Ireland, Pte. Alexander Robinson and 2nd Lt. Bernard Williams; also Pte. Richard Cahill who died at home from lung wounds after being gassed in France earlier in 1917.
